The DVHL scholarship goes to high school seniors who have played who have played in the DVHL for at least 3 or more consecutive years and who plan to continue their education beyond the 12th grade. Selections are based on applicants essay score, scholastic achievement, and extracurricular activities without regard to race, sex, religion or financial need.

Applications must also write an essay of 500 words or less on “What have I learned form playing a team sport”. It must also be accompanied by the applicant’s high school transcript showing grades, SAT score, GPA and class rank.

Stock was one of only two scholarships handed out by the DVHL this past season.

In a letter to Stock, DVHL President Colleen Marinari said, “On behalf of the DVHL, I would like to congratulate you for being chosen as one of our recipients for the DVHL Scholarship! The scholarship awarded will be in the amount of $1,000.00. This award is meant for you to use for your books or miscellaneous expenses that you will incur when you attend Slippery Rock University. We would like to make the presentation to you in August at our meeting with the membership. Again, congratulations!”

The Flames got a prominent mention in the Lehigh Valley Phantoms most recent newsletter, where they discussed Phantoms co-owner Jim Brooks visit and presentation at the Flames banquet in April. Brooks was there with Phantoms VPs Dennis Begley and Erik Hanson, and showed a video of what the PPL Center will look like when complete. The Sands Event Center in Bethlehem was the site of the Lehigh Valley Flames Second Annual Banquet. The event brought in almost 700 players, parents and dignitaries from across the Lehigh Valley. Jim Brooks, co-owner of the Adirondack (soon-to-be Lehigh Valley) Phantoms was on hand to give the attendees a sneak peak of the PPL Center, the Phantoms new home rising in the center of Allentown. Also present were DVHL commissioner, Jay Finnegan, representatives from Lehigh Valley Health Network and the Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley, and many more.

Most of all, it was a time to pay tribute to all of the players who have represented the Flames throughout the 2012-2013. For the complete story and photographs, click here.
